Your home page is typically the landing page for your site. It is a good idea to keep the information on this page relatively simple and easy to understand.

Use pictures and as few words as possible to introduce yourself and your portfolio. You can use the ‘Add Media’ button to upload images that you own, or that are covered by a Creative Commons license. Please don’t assume that pictures that you find on the web are free for you to use.

As you are working on the page, change the ‘Status’ of the page to ‘Draft’ so that it isn’t visible to the public.

When you are drafting a page, it is easiest to work on the content of the page first, and then work on making it look the way you want. In fact, this is a good strategy for the entire site. It is tempting to get drawn into choosing and editing and tweaking themes and appearances, but try to resist.

So, it’s your turn…create a new page, call it ‘Home’ or something similarly descriptive, and create the first draft of your landing page.

When you have finished that, check out the next tutorial page called ‘Tutorial Categories’.
